Rotary Volunteers Prepare Hundreds of Apples for Ely Harvest Fayre

Members of the Rotary Club of Ely came together in September to help prepare one of the most popular attractions at Ely's annual Apple and Harvest Fayre.

A team of Rotary volunteers spent the day gathering a large harvest of cooking apples from trees at Lancaster Way Business Park. The apple-picking session, organised with the support of club member Chris Lee, saw Rotarians and local supporters working together to collect around 100 kilograms of fruit destined for this year's Fayre.

The effort did not stop at harvesting. Once the apples had been collected, volunteers began the next stage of preparation, peeling, cooking and packaging the fruit ready for freezing. In the weeks leading up to the event, the apples will be transformed into the famous Rotary apple crumbles that have become a much-loved tradition for visitors to the Fayre.

The Apple and Harvest Fayre is one of Ely's best-known community events, celebrating local produce, seasonal food and the city's rich agricultural heritage. Each year, the Rotary Club's homemade apple crumbles prove to be a favourite among attendees.

The club would like to thank everyone who gave their time to support the preparation effort. The day was a wonderful example of community spirit in action, with volunteers working side by side to help ensure another successful Fayre.

Visitors attending this year's Apple and Harvest Fayre can once again look forward to enjoying a taste of autumn while supporting local community activities and charitable causes.
